Agatha Duer Griebel, 91, passed away February 2, 2012 at Lorantffy Care Center in Copley. Born to Adolph Duer and Clara Heisser Duer in Akron, she lived in the Copley area for over 50 years.
She graduated from Central High School and Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing, obtaining a BSN from the University of Akron. Agatha was an Army nurse during World War II with the 25th General Hospital and the 128th Evacuation Hospital. Volunteering for overseas duty, she was stationed in England and served in MASH units in France, Germany, Holland, and Belgium earning two bronze stars.
She was a charter member of St. Hilary Catholic Church and life member of Copley VFW Post 7971.
Agatha was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Renata Duer; sister, Rosemary Duer Foerst; spouse of 54 years, Alvin; and son, Thomas. She is survived by children, Kathryn (Andrew) Kasarda, Lawrence (Cindy) Griebel and Renata (David) Ochsenhirt; as well as grandchildren, Christine (Randy) Diesz, Michelle Stiles, David Griebel, Russell, David and Joseph Ochsenhirt; and two great grandchildren.
Per her request, there will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice .
