A.J. Ashe

A.J. Ashe, 88, passed away July 25, 2013. He was born in Kenton, TN where he resided through high school. He joined the Navy Aviation program at age 18. His entire service was in the U.S.A. He left the Navy as Lieutenant (junior grade). A.J. was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and earned his masters and Ph.D. at Cornell University. After serving on the Cornell staff for one year he joined Economics Research at Armour & Co. and later went to Butler Mfg. Co. He joined B.F. Goodrich in 1960 as manager of Economics Research. After serving in several positions of increasing responsibility, he retired in 1983 as Senior Vice President of the B.F. Goodrich Corporation.

A.J. was a member of many local, national and international committees, boards and advisory groups including Chairman of the elite Conference of Business Economists. In 1964, at the request of the State Department, he represented the U.S. at a meeting of the heads of European Countries in Russia. Among local groups were University of Akron, Akron Community Foundation, United Way of Summit County, and Akron General Medical Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served in many responsible positions including Life Trustee at the time of his death.

A.J. is survived by his loving wife Robbie of 66 years; sons, John (Beth), Robert (Karen), David (Marilyn); granddaughter, Jodi; grandson, David Jr.; great grandson, Jackson; step grandchildren, Paul and Nick; brother, Walter of Bristol, TN; sister, Mary (Richard) of Kenton, TN; sisters in law, Annette Varnum of Chagrin Falls, LaRue of Dallas, TX, and Louise of Memphis, TN.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30 at Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1:00p.m. with Pastor Bob Beals officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at Fairlawn Country Club. Private interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
