Alfred A. Bortscheller Alfred A. Bortscheller, 94, died September 18, 2011. Al was born in Cleveland and served in the 255th Signal Construction Battalion of the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II receiving five Bronze Stars for the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes and was cited by the French with the Croix de Guerre with a Bronze Star. Preceded in death by parents, Matthew and Mamie Bortscheller, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis; stepchildren, Jeff Jan, Sally, Susan, and Tim Pattie Prentice; grandchildren, Jared Emily, Corey, Trevor and Taylor Grace. Private family services will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park where military honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National WWII Memorial Commission, 2300 Clarenoon Blvd., Suite 501, Arlington, VA 22201. Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel
