Alice R. Miller
A most beautiful lady has passed away. Alice R. Miller, daughter of Lois and Howard Swartout, died 24 February 2009.
Alice was the beloved wife of William J. Miller to whom she was married for 61 years. She is survived by their three children, Tim W. Miller Deborah of Copley, Ohio, Thomas M. Miller Kathleen of Strongsville, Ohio, and Lori N. Miller Michael G. Freeman of St. Petersburg, Florida. She dearly loved her six grandchildren, Nathan Lindsay, Matthew, Andrew, Patrick, David, Sara and her great-grandson, Luke.
Alice will be long remembered by a host of friends for her warm and caring nature and the individual concerns for the well being of others. She was one to never complain. She was a graduate of Buchtel High School and Kent State University School of Library Science. She served as a children's librarian for Akron Summit County Public Library and especially enjoyed her time serving on the bookmobile and as a volunteer librarian at Akron Children's hospital. Never one to seek recognition, she was a Charter Founder of the Fairlawn City Woman's Club, Mobile Meals of Fairlawn and West Akron, a fifty year member of PEO, a Girl Scout leader, and an active member of Montrose Zion United Methodist Church. She cherished spending the winter months sharing her residence on Marco Island, Florida with her dear friends. She was a world traveler visiting many exotic locations such as China, Australia, New Zealand, the Galapagos Islands, the Upper Amazon, South Africa, the Greek Islands, Venice, the Nile River, South America, Europe and Alaska with a special love of Ireland. Hers was a full and happy life surrounded by cherished loved ones.
In lieu of visitation hours, a special memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, 1 March 2009, at Montrose Zion United Methodist Church, 565 North Cleveland Massillon Rd., 44333. The family wishes to thank the medical staff of Select Specialty Hospital for their constant skilled and loving care while Alice was in residence. The very special effort by Dr. Mazen Shaheen in providing medical updates and comforting counsel to the family was especially appreciated.
