Alice Mae (Shanazar) Smith of Bath passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
Born on April 4, 1924 in Akron, Ohio, she was the third daughter of Kegham and Alice (Galustian) Shanazar. She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Armenette at age 9 and Grace at age 87.
Alice met the love of her life and married her "Aqua-Velva Man" Norris E. Smith on March 21, 1959. They enjoyed nearly 55 years of marriage before Norris passed away on March 1, 2014. Norris was an engineer with Goodyear, and Alice had particularly fond memories of their work-related stay in Phoenix, Arizona. Surrounding herself with family, friends, music and fun, Alice listened to the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts every Saturday, delighted in lottery scratch-its, and watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every evening that she could.
A tiny but powerful little Armenian woman, Alice was known to friends, neighbors and anyone she encountered as the "Candy Lady." She carried chocolate kisses around with her wherever she went and gifted everyone she met, from waitresses to firefighters, with chocolates and smiles.
Alice and Norris were very close to her sister Grace's children, Bruce Johnson and Diane Retallack. After Norris' death, Alice moved to Puyallup, Washington to be near the care of Bruce and his wife Susan. Alice is also survived by her great-nephews and -niece, Matthew, Katie and Alex of the Johnson family and Nick and Jeremy of the Retallack family.
Services will be held on Monday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with viewing beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at the Glendale Cemetery.
