Allan Frank Doelling passed away March 20, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati to Fred and Stella Thomas Doelling on November 29, 1932.
He was a proud graduate of Walnut Hills High School and received a full scholarship to Washington and Jefferson College where he was president of the sophomore class, president of Beta Theta Pi, was on the baseball team, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He came to Akron to work in the sales office of Allis-Chalmers in 1957 and the city was his home for the next 66 years. In the 1970's he became self-employed in sales, marketing, and business development, representing various companies through the years.
Allan was the consummate people person. He never met a stranger and delighted in making new friends, whether in business or walking the beaches of Cape Cod and Hilton Head. He maintained lifelong friendships, some of which continued from junior high until today. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and was an unrepentant punster. He loved all sports as a participator and spectator and especially looked forward to his annual golf trip with the "Akron Package," as he and his buddies came to be known. He was a loving husband and the perfect girl dad.
He was a community volunteer with a special interest in Greenleaf Family Center, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a youth leader, Deacon and Elder.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and his daughter, Jenny. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Dr. Tim Helton; his grandson, Sam Skopp; his granddaughter, Jordan Helton; his brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Leetta Doelling, and nephews Scott and Tim Doelling.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and entire staff at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus; Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital, Edwin Shaw; and Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center for their excellent and compassionate care.
