Allan Johnson

Allan Johnson Jr., 87, of Akron, Ohio died on March 22, 2013.

He was born on Bastille Day, July 14th, 1925 in Akron, Ohio, the son of Allan Chalfant Johnson Sr. and Katharine Baird Johnson.

He graduated from St. Paul's School in Concord, NH in 1944 and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University in 1947 where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1949. After Harvard Law, he returned to Ohio and where he received the highest score on the Ohio Bar exam in 1949. He was a Senior Partner at Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs in Akron for more than 50 years as a Trusts and Estates attorney. He served as Treasurer for the Akron Community Foundation Trusts and was a member of the Mayflower Club, Portage Country Club, and the South Conway Club in South Conway, New Hampshire. He enjoyed biking, skiing, canoeing, traveling through France with his wife, Mary, and spending his summers in South Conway, New Hampshire.

Allan was preceded in death by sisters, Katharine H. Johnson in 1921 and Carol Johnson Boynton in 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dure Johnson (Akron, Ohio); his four children, Katharine Johnson Mears (South Woodstock, Vermont), Anne Johnson Hurt (Scottsville, Virginia), Alicia Johnson Spearman (Round Pound, Maine), and Allan Johnson III (Bath, Ohio); 11 grandchildren, Charles Hurt, Anne Mears, Travis Hurt, Katharine Mears, Thatcher Hurt, Olivia Hurt, Keeler Mears, Reed Spearman, James Spearman, Chandler Spearman, and Henry Spearman; and 4 step children, Page Bullock, Sarah Nix, Henry Bullock, and Madelene Wilson. He was lovingly cared for in the later part of his life by Traci Cole.


Services will be held 12 noon Saturday in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church (corner of W. Market St. and Kenilworth Dr.) with Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating. Private interment at Glendale Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorials may be made to your favorite Akron charity. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
