Alton J. Taylor, Sr., 93, passed away April 30, 2015.
Alton was born February 2, 1922 to Mary and Steve Taylor. As a young soldier stationed in Belgium during World War II, he met the former Julia Van Lint. She became his "war bride" and traveled to the United States when his tour of duty was completed. They settled in Cuyahoga Falls.
Many area residents knew Alton as a custom homebuilder focused in the communities of Stow, Munroe Falls, Cuyahoga Falls and Barberton. His attention to detail in the construction of affordable single-family homes was unmatched. He and Julia enjoyed long weekends at their lakefront trailer home in Portage County, and both had a fondness for Cleveland's sports teams - especially the Indians.
Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Julia in 2011 and brother, Steve; he is survived by his daughter, Jeanne (William) Jasso; sons, Alton, Jr. (Sharon), Stephen (Shelley) and Charles; granddaughters, Jaclyn (Shane) Golden, Megan, Shannon, Erin and Emily; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander, Olivia and McKenna; nieces Kathy and Autumn; and nephew, Ed.
Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Peter Kovacina officiating. (Please meet inside the main gate.)
