Amelia Wenhardt Markus, 102, went peacefully home to be with her Lord on June 7, 2011.
Born in Akron, Ohio on September 28, 1908, she lived in the area during her early years and worked at Ohio Edison in Akron. She shared many happy years with her sister Esther who also worked for Ohio Edison in the Transportation Department. After 20 years in the Lighting Department she retired. She then married Andrew Markus in 1951 and moved to Columbus, Ohio until his death in 1967. Amelia eventually returned to the Akron area where she was employed by Holiday Inn for six years and was responsible for the service employees. Amelia was baptized in 1935 at East Akron Apostolic Christian Church and later transferred her membership to Lakeside Christian Church.
Preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters, she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She is now in the presence of Jesus where she can know Him by the nail prints in His hand.
Services will be held 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, with Rev. Duane Getz officiating. Private burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
