Anita Verderber

July 30, 1940 — August 11, 2017

Anita Verderber (nee Barto) succumbed to lung cancer on August 11, 2017 after a 22 month battle.
Anita was born July 30, 1940 to the late Tel and Clara (nee Balcerzak) Barto, and was the sister of the late Ron Barto; sister-in-law, Nancy survives. Her first date was with Joe Verderber, with whom she worked at Turney Hardware. They married five years later in September 1960 and immediately drove to Boston, where she got a job at MIT while Joe attended graduate school there. When asked how long she had been married, she answered "Two days. But we have to eat." Anita and Joe had three children; Joe Jr. (Linda), Dr. Lisa Verderber, MD (Joe Dellorto), and Paul (Mary Ann). They have four granddaughters; Alice and Eliza Verderber, and Grace and Claire Dellorto. Joe's job took Anita and the family out of the Cleveland area in the early 70's and she did a great job of setting up and keeping homes for them in a new city every few years until they completed the circle by retiring to northeast Ohio in 2001. Despite the workload of homemaking and relocations, Anita earned an associate's degree in Early Childhood Development from Union College in New Jersey, and worked at times as a high school foreign language department secretary, and as a COBOL programmer. Anita was an avid inter-club tennis and platform tennis player, skier, bridge player, and became an avid golfer too. She was an award winning gardener in Massachusetts, and an active parishioner at her churches, including St. Victor in Richfield.
