Anna Arfaras

Anna Arfaras died September 18, 2014 surrounded by her loving nieces and family.

Born in Akron, she was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, the Daughters of Penelope, the Akron Woman's City Club and had been very active with the Children's Hospital Day at the Races. Miss Arfaras retired from General Tire as an Executive Secretary.

Anna had a mind of her own, smart, quick thinking and certainly did not understand the word "no". She persevered until her goal was accomplished. She enjoyed her life with cherished family vacations in Southampton, Broadway Shows, and the music of the Cleveland Orchestra. We all cherish the wonderful Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings with her famous lime pineapple desert, tabuli and sauerkraut balls. Always fun loving, she enjoyed surprising her friends and family with thoughtful gifts and treats.

Anna dedicated her life to her parents. Anna and her dear sister Mary were inseparable on their many adventures through life. She dearly loved her little brother Sam and as a child they enjoyed going to see scary movies at the Saturday matinee. Her nieces loved playing dress up with her beautiful wardrobe and will always smile and cherish the memories and fun we had with our dear Aunt Ann.

Everyone should be so fortunate as to have an Aunt Anna in their lives. Anna was selfless, loving and dedicated to her family and community. She always had your best interest at heart. We will never see another Aunt Anna and we miss her already more than anyone could ever begin to know.

Preceded in death by her parents, John and Eleni Arfaras, sister, Mary A. Economou and brother-in-law, John N. Economou; she is survived by her brother, Spiros (Joan) Arfaras; cousin, Nick Nicholis; nieces, Elena Economou (John) Zwisler, Johnna M. Economou, Patti (Jim) Zangardi, Mary (Joe) Kronander, Christina (Rick) Smith, Cathy (Kelly) Kuennen, dear friend and caregiver, Barbara Peterson.

Services will be held 10 a.m. SATURDAY at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the church one hour before the service Saturday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Medical Center, Memphis, Tenn.; Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church; or the John N. Economou Scholarship Fund of Akron Community Foundation. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
