Anna S. Topougis, 83, died May 6, 2016 in Akron, Ohio, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Farrell, Pennsylvania she was a long time resident of Akron, Ohio and Marco Island, Florida. Anna was a graduate of Slippery Rock State Teachers College and received her Master's Degree in Education from Penn State University. Anna dedicated her life to the service of others. She retired from teaching after 30 years of service from the Akron Public Schools, and spent her latter years in service to the church, as a member of The Parish Council in Naples, Florida. Anna was a steward of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Akron, Ohio; Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Lansing, Michigan; St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, Naples, Florida. She was lovingly known as the "Hat Lady" as she enjoyed wearing colorfully decorated hats to church. Anna was a long time member of the Daughters of Penelope and held the highest office on local, district and national levels, culminating as Grand President in 1991-1992.
She was an avid poet and was known for her poetic tributes. Anna enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and board games. She instilled her passion for education in her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Topougis was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony J. Topougis. She is survived by her loving children, son, Joseph A. Topougis (Diane) and daughter, Stacie P. Neros (Nicholas Neros II); grandchildren, Robbert Wallick (Ashley), Alexia Wallick, Nicholas Neros, III; great grandsons, Noah and Lukas; brothers, William Lefes (Sue), Steve Lefes (Dorothy); very special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Artemis Topougis; nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. FRIDAY at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union Street, Akron, OH 44304 with Rev. Father Jerry F. Hall officiating. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the CHURCH from 5 to 8 p.m. THURSDAY, where Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E.
