Anne Mayors died peacefully surrounded by her family in the early morning hours of June 17, 2014. She was a resident of The Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn. She had suffered a massive stroke on June 5.
Born in Youngstown on July 17, 1922, Anne was the daughter of Anthony and Lucy Sver. She was one of ten children. After her own mother died when she was 14, she and her invalid father raised the six remaining children at home.
Anne was the Salutatorian of her graduating class from Rayen High School in 1941. She worked for many years as a legal secretary with the First Federal Savings and Loan in Youngstown. During WW II, she helped to write the very first war bond sold in the U.S.
Anne was a founding member of St. Christine Church in Youngstown, and was a volunteer secretary at the parish rectory for many years.
She married Dean T. Mayors in 1946 after he returned from serving in the US Army during the war; they were married for 36 years until his death in 1982.
Anne was an avid reader, an energetic conversationalist, and a lover of the music of Frank Sinatra. She maintained a large, beautiful flower garden at her home for many years, and her floral knowledge and skills were legendary. Above all else, she loved her God, the Virgin Mary, and her family.
