Dave Clawson, affectionately known as Fuzz, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2013, after a long series of illnesses.
Love of family came first in his life. His world revolved around his wife, children and grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Armond and Emily Clawson of Cincinnati, Ohio, he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janice Mattfeld Clawson; and children, Chris Gee (Ken), Mark Clawson (Cindy), Steve Clawson (Kerry) and David Clawson (Amy). He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, Allyson, Elizabeth, Madison, Nicholas, Elise, Anna, Conor and Evan Clawson, Isabella Petracca and Austin and Melissa Gee. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Clawson (Margie), and sister, Sylvia Clawson, along with many other nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Colerain High School in Colerain, Ohio, and attended the University of Cincinnati. Dave's early life focused on his dedication to helping others. Throughout his life, he was known for his generosity and putting others first. He and his father were integral members of the Groesbeck, Ohio, Volunteer Fire Department and Life Squad. At the time, he was one of the youngest squad captains in the state of Ohio. His love for antique fire equipment lasted throughout his life. He also served in the National Guard from 1960 to 1966, showing honor to his country.
Shortly thereafter, Dave began his lifelong career with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., which would take him and his family from Cincinnati to Danville, Kentucky; St. Louis, Missouri; and Chicago, Illinois; finally ending up in Akron, Ohio, where he became the general marketing manager of the Farm Tire Division. His final years at Goodyear focused on his love of travel and entertaining Goodyear dealers with their reward trips around the world. He and his wife Jan were able to travel the world together before he retired in 1996.
