Arthur B. Magazeni, 90, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away March 8, 2015.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 14, 1924. The family moved to Akron, Ohio when he was about 3 years old. He graduated from North High school. Prior to graduation he worked in a neighborhood grocery store. After graduation he worked as a shaper operator at the Gougler Machine Company in Kent, Ohio. He enlisted into the army in February 1943 and served with the 36th Infantry Division in France until he was wounded in November 1944 and awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the B.F. Goodrich Company. He was graduated from the University of Akron in June 1953 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He worked at Ohio Edison in the Substation Design Section, then in the Planning of Transmission Facilities, and finally as General Transmission Engineer in charge of the Transmission Line Design Section. He retired from Ohio Edison after 36 years of service.
He was a past member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, the American Society for the Testing and Materials, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Copley Post 7971, District Chairman of the former Keystone District of the Boy Scouts of America, and Vice President of the Akoga Bowmen Archery Club. He was a World War I airplane buff, and a Civil War buff. He also enjoyed oil painting and fishing. He started to play golf seriously when he was 50 years old, and remained an avid golfer. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and Asia Minor Hellenic American Society.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Josephine Magazeni; his first wife, Lillie; and half-sister, Frances Travis; he is survived by his loving wife, Ann; stepdaughter, Ellie (Mike) Ahan; grandchildren, Mary Valencia and Tony Ahan; great-granddaughter, Adrianna Ahan; sisters, Emma (Edward) Krstulovich, Helen (Ray) Lafeber; brother, Albert (Barbara) Magazzeni; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., TUESDAY from 4-7 p.m., where the Trisagion service will take place at 6:30 p.m., and from 12 to 1 p.m. WEDNESDAY at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church prior to the service at 1 p.m., with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, Ohio 44304.
