Aspasia Alexiou, 91, passed away on February 1, 2017 at Brookdale Montrose.
She was born March 17, 1925 in Kalymnos, Greece to Michael and Margo Maglis. Aspasia survived World War II and immigrated to Tarpon Springs, Florida at the age of 22. In 1952 Aspasia went back to Greece and married Kostas Alexiou and they came back to live in Akron together. She worked much of her life managing restaurants and she co-owned and ran the Olympia Restaurant with her sister. Aspasia was well known throughout the area for her Greek pastries and baking ability. She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Aspasia will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Aspasia is preceded in death by her husband, Kostas Alexiou, of 44 years; daughter-in-law, Dicki Alexiou; and sister, Olympia Maglis. She is survived by her son, Dr. Solon Alexiou; daughter, Margo Alexiou; grandchildren, Dr. Kostas Alexiou, Dr. Barbara (Charles) Alexiou-Manofsky, Natalie Alexiou and Christopher Serfass; and great-granddaughter, Evangeline Manofsky.
Services will be held 11 a.m. SATURDAY, February 4 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union Street, Akron, OH 44304, with Father Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Anthony Retikas Scholarship Fund, 771 N. Portage Path, Akron, OH 44303. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
