Barbara A Gehring

Barbara Ann Gates Gehring, 77, passed away January 8, 2022. Born in Anniston, Alabama on July 24, 1944 to Mary and Jack Gates, she lived most of her life in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Buchtel High School in 1962 and Miami University in 1966. She was an Art teacher with the Akron Public Schools until 2005, most recently with Roswell Kent Middle School.

Barb’s creativity, drive and attention to detail shined through everything she touched. From the way she taught in her classroom, the way she hosted every event with personal, handmade touches, to the way she made each letter she wrote so sincere, handwritten in her unique and beautiful handwriting. She was happiest planting her favorite flowers in the spring with her daughter, to help attract her beloved hummingbirds and cardinals that frequented her beautiful backyard oasis. Her love for her dog Reagan was unmatched. She enjoyed reading everything she could get her hands on, watching hours of HGTV, and sending sweet animal videos to everyone she loved. Her strength, her courage and her determination lives on through her children and grandchildren. Her bright smile will be truly missed.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, David Gough Gehring, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Chris (Adam) Scheff and Anne (Brad) Reepmeyer, grandchildren Samantha and Leo Scheff, brothers Mike and Bruce Gates, sister-in-law Gwynne (Dave) Homan and Barb’s dog, Ray.

Family will receive friends at 12:30-1:30 pm Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Billows Funeral Home, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333, and services will immediately follow at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
