Barbara Preston Nelson
Her warmth, sincerity, and desire to view a situation in a positive light are how people will fondly remember Barbara Preston Nelson.
She died April 30, 2023 while in hospice care in Medina.
She began an 81-year journey of life in Youngstown, OH, the second child of Andrew and Ida Preston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Andrew Preston and sister-in-law Jean Bozzelli Preston. Barb’s engaging personality spread beyond Youngstown. The family relocated to Florida and then Akron in the early 1950s. Barb graduated from Buchtel High School in 1959. She attended Kent State University and later the University of Akron where she earned an associate degree. She held several clerical positions and in 1973 began a 33-year career at Fairlawn Country Club. Her gracious qualities were noted by members and coworkers while serving as an administrative assistant and receptionist at FCC.
Another phase in her life began in 1982 when she met Lee Nelson from Canton. They married and spent 37 years together. The couple had a penchant for travel, highlighted by four Caribbean cruises along with trips to major cities. Before and during retirement, Barb was an avid follower of Cleveland professional sports teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes. A devout Catholic, she was a 50-year member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Cuyahoga Falls.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by nieces Holly Wilt (Steve) of Akron, Heather (Scott Glazebrook) Preston of Seattle and great niece and nephew Charlotte and Charlie Wilt.
