Barbara Ann Pankey of Akron passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Thursday, November 8, 2018.
Barbara was born on March 26, 1935 in Dover, Ohio to Anna and George Watson. She was happily married to Daniel Terrance Pankey for 53 years and was the loving and unselfish mom to five children: Pamela, Debra, Michael, Gary and Amy. She also was a loving grandmother to Justin, Michael Adam, Seth, Michael Jay, Samuel, Kyle, Mathew, Emma, Jessica, Cody and Valeria.
Barbara loved family gatherings where she enjoyed the company of her children, grand kids, son-in-laws, Edward, Billy and William and daughter-in-laws, Ana and Julie.
In addition to family, Barbara loved her neighbors on her SE Akron street and her Church, Firestone Park United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed meeting with the congregation after worship. She also thoroughly enjoyed visiting her brother Kenny and being reunited with childhood friends from her hometown Dover. The family is grateful to all of you.
Barbara loved sports, especially basketball, and loved rooting for the hometown teams. She wasn't one to gloat over wins nor let losses get her down. Instead, what mattered to her was the spirit of the game, the cheering crowds and the excitement of competition. She carried on her Dover Tornadoes High School cheerleading spirit to every game she watched.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Kenny; her loving children, grandchildren and great granddaughters, Hadley, Lylah, Layla and Avery. She is pre-deceased by her sister, Jane and brothers, Jack, Harold, Glen, and William.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 16th at her beloved church, Firestone Park United Methodist Church, 250 N. Firestone Blvd., Akron 44301. There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. Following the service Barbara will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio with her loving husband, Daniel, who passed away in 2008. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to consider making memorial donations to Big Bend Hospice, 275 W. Base Street, Madison, Florida 32340. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
