Beatrice K. McDowell Beatrice K. McDowell passed away on September 25, 2011 at 93. Born March 11, 1918 in Akron, Ohio, she graduated from Buchtel High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. Bea was a loving mother, energetic grandmother, and an active community volunteer. Organizations she was affiliated with are Witan, Junior League of Akron, Saint Thomas Hospital Woman's Board, Akron Art Museum, United Disabilities, and Kadesh Court # 19. She was a member of the Akron Woman's City Club, Fairlawn Country Club, and Portage Country Club. She loved many things: watching college football University of Michigan and University of Akron. She took up snow skiing when she was 46 and continued to ski for 40 plus years. She played golf and bowled, but in her senior years she enjoyed and played bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Anthony Knapp; and her husband, C. Blake Jr. To celebrate and cherish her memory, she leaves son, C. Blake, III MaryAnn and daughter, Margaret Philip Lloyd; brother-in-law, Edward H. McDowell; god-daughter, Gini Paige; grandchildren: Catherine Dale Verkuilen, Kimberly Jon Nessel, Cristy Chris Cooley, and Beatrice Josh Welch; greatgrandchildren, Stephanie and Patricia Verkuilen, Emma Grace and Jacob Cooley, Addison and Rowan Nessel, and Charlie and Mattie Welch. The family is thankful to Kim Bly, her loving companion and girl Friday and her caregivers, Ernestine Jones and Wanda Richardson. Thank you to the staff at Hospice on Ridgewood for their special care. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairlawn West United Church of Christ, 2095 West Market Street, Rev. David Loar officiating. Private family interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd.
