Bessie M. Caraway

Bessie M. Caraway, 95, went to be with the Lord June 13, 2012 at Canterbury Villa in Alliance.

Born July 7, 1916 in Mt. Bridges, Ontario, Canada, she was a naturalized citizen. She was a graduate of Buchtel High School and Hammel Actual Business College. Bessie was a faithful member of the Akron Baptist Temple and the Golden Agers, and retired from Star Chevrolet at the age of 85. Bessie volunteered her time visiting nursing homes with her beloved golden retriever, Bea.

Preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Edna Downey and step father, Robert W. Downey, husband of 38 years, Robert T. Evans whom she married on November 20, 1937 and by husbands, Philip Huber, and Malcolm R. Caraway; she is survived by her daughters, Sandra (George) Kollar of Alliance, Karen (Richard) Lyon of Tallmadge and Nancy (Fred) Sutton of Florida; good friend, Marie Galloway; her special sweetheart, granddaughter, Lydia Kerr, ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren; cousin, Blanche Gardiner of London, Ontario, Canada.

"Mom (Grandma Bessie) did things out of love never imagining what she did would become unforgettable memories in the hearts of her loved ones. She was a kind, giving, loving, forgiving, Christian woman. She will especially be remembered for her wonderful pies. She was an inspiration to all of us and will be dearly missed. She will always be our special angel."

Services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Akron Baptist Temple, 2324 Manchester Rd., Akron 44314, with Rev. Ernie Kemppel officiating. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. and 1 hour before services at the church.
