Bessie J. Johnson, age, 86, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
Born July 12, 1928 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Howard and Lena (Nichols) Bexfield.
Bessie graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1946 and lived in Springfield, Ohio until she retired from The Ohio Bell Telephone Company in 1990. She was a proud member of the P.E.O Sisterhood and Telephone Pioneers of America, was active in St. Hilary Sewing Ladies and Journeywomen Group, and participated in Summit County voter registration drives.
Bessie is survived by daughters Bonnie Oakleaf, Ann Oakleaf, and Susan Sturgeon; son-in-law Wade Johnson; loving sister Bonnie McConnell; grandchildren: Leslie, Matthew, and Robin Sturgeon; step-children Caroline Rice, Charles and Jackie Johnson, Leonard and Sue Johnson, and Suzy Wardlaw; and many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; loving sisters Betty Cermack, Barbara McCroskey, and Bobietta Steffik; and husbands William Oakleaf and Leonard Johnson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd, Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org , or by calling 704-359-4440.
