Bettie Lowther Riggs 1925-2009
Bettie Riggs, beloved mother, grandmother, friend and teacher, passed away Tuesday, June 23.
Bettie is survived by her two children, Jane Jonesco John and Dan Riggs Annette; six grandchildren, Amy Jane Jonesco, John Jonesco III Jennifer, Michael Jonesco, Katie Jonesco James Lower, Danny Riggs and Jeff Riggs; three and a half great-grandchildren, Alexa, Sarah, Jake and another due next month!
An elementary teacher for twenty-eight years in Bath and Woodridge Schools, Bettie lived her 84 years of life to the fullest. She travelled far and wide with friends, played a mean bridge game, and loved good food and good drink. She was a ferocious fan of her family, attending hundreds of football and baseball games, dance recitals, and graduations. She was always the proudest and most cherished voice in the crowd.
Bettie grew up in Parkersburg, W. Va., and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1947. She has lived in the Akron area for nearly fifty years. She was a weekly volunteer at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital as well as an active part of Akron Women's City Club. She also was a member of Phi Delta Kappa teaching honorary, International Reading Association where she held local and national offices, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She always brought laughter and love to every experience, sharing many stories with everyone she met. She enriched the lives of all who met her, especially her family, friends, and students.
She will be loved and celebrated at services held on Friday, 11 a.m., at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls, with Rev. Dick Kretchmar officiating.
