Betty Hofmann, 86, passed away peacefully February 28, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on December 8, 1922 in Akron, Ohio to Perl and Grace Carrier. Betty had one sister named Dorothy. She graduated from South High School in 1940 and then attended Akron U for one year before taking a job at Goodrich as a secretary. Betty met her husband while working at Goodrich where he also worked as a chemical engineer. Charles and her married in 1946 and were married 33 years. While living in Pampa, Tx., they started their family and their first two sons were born Mike Kitty and Carl. The couple returned to Akron and went on to have three more children Libby Craig, Curt and Clint.

Betty spent the next three decades raising five children and volunteering endlessly. Betty was a Scout leader and room mother for each child. She also put in many years as a volunteer at Akron General Hospital, Stan Hywet Garden Club and Weathervane Community Playhouse. Betty coached her son Carl to consecutive Akron district spelling bee championships in 1964 and 1965. She returned to Akron U in the mid 70's and ended up graduating with her son, Curt on Dec. 11, 1977 with a BA in Sociology. Betty has two granddaughters, two grandsons and two great granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron with Rev. Derek Starr Redwine officiating. Inurnment at a later date. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel
