Betty Jane Dancey Godard “Bet” passed away on October 30, 2021 at the age of 96 in Bath, Ohio.Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1925, Bet moved to Ohio to attend Denison University. Denison was where she met the love of her life, Fred Godard.
Bet graduated from Denison University with a B.A. Degree in history. She later received Denison University’s Outstanding Alumni Award.
Bet was a partner in Fred Godard Ford Inc. for 30 years with her late husband, Fred.
Bet was involved in many groups in the Akron area over the years including First Congregational Church of Akron, Mt. Zwingli United Church of Christ. The Edge Academy Board, Cub Scouts, Bath Alpha Garden Club, PEO, Fairlawn Country Club, and Children Service’s Home Board. Bet most loved her association of 41 years with the Akron Woman’s City Club where she served as President, Trustee, Chairman of Town Hall and many other offices.
Bet was also active in national and international organizations. She was Director of Opal Dancey Memorial Foundation, and member of: Lay Council of Churches Uniting in Global Mission; Executive Board of National Association of Congregational Christian Churches, and the Russian Farms Community Project where she helped Russian women for many years.
Above all, Bet Godard was kind, generous and loving of all. She made everyone in her company feel like they were important to her.
Preceding her in death is her husband Fred M. Godard and son, Thomas Godard. She leaves a hole in the hearts of so many, including her children: Susan Godard Dudas (David) of Roswell, Georgia, Tim Godard (Kathy) of Bath, Ohio, Tanios Viviani (Liliane) of Fairfax, Virginia and Atchara Ming Gary (aka “Atchi”) of Bangkok Thailand. Grandchildren: Kristi Godard, Michael Godard, Lilia Dudas, Danielle Dudas, Anna Viviani and Livia Viviani.
Special family: Jan, Tim, Daniel and Matthew Gabel; Gary, Becky, Lyndsey and Jason DeMoss; the entire Mike and Nancy Little family; and Katherine Jaeger.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021 at Mt. Zwingli UCC, 2172 S. Medina Line Rd., Wadsworth, OH 44281 with Pastor Keith Hejnal officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity in her memory.
