Beverly Kay Spaethe

Beverly Kay Spaethe, 83, passed peacefully the morning of March 18, 2014.
She was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. Beverly attended East High School and graduated from Kent State. She was happily married to Robert H. Spaethe for 35 years until his passing in 1992. In 1994, she fell in love with Bill Scullion who was born in Scotland. She and Bill shared the last 20 years enjoying life and being together always. Bill's generosity, patience and devotion to her allowed Beverly to live in her beautiful, rural home near Sharon Center with her dogs and cats until her passing.
Beverly loved nature. Her favorite fun was to fish, swim and boat around the rocky landscapes of Georgian Bay in Ontario where she visited every summer. She was a gifted artist who loved to paint and draw, write poetry and cook for her family. She taught school at Northampton Elementary for many years and was a devoted volunteer at Akron Children's Hospital for 30 years. Beverly also loved to work in her flower gardens and watch for wildlife around her backyard pond. She had a wonderful circle of friends and was duly blessed with a devoted and loving family. She was energetic and fun, kind and loving.
Family members that passed before her include her sisters, Joann Schmid and Shirley Mahoney; her husband, Robert Spaethe; and her beloved son, Kemp Spaethe. She is survived by her loving companion, Bill Scullion; her daughters, Sally (Marc) Griffin of Wadsworth and Lori (JB) Cox of Panama City, FL; her four grandchildren and Luann Spaethe.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., where friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, One Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308 or Medina SPCA, P.O. Box 135, Medina, OH 44258-0135.
