Bill J. Frye, 68, of Copley passed away Friday, April 24, 2009 surrounded by his family.
Born April 25, 1940 to Millard and Josephine Frye in Brazil, Ind. Bill married his love Bonnie in 1968 and recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary.
Bill received his undergraduate and masters degrees from Indiana State University and his Ph.D from The Ohio State University Go Bucks!. Bill retired as a professor at the University of Akron after many years of teaching. One of his proudest accomplishments was receiving the Outstanding Teacher Award in recognition of his excellence in teaching. Bill also authored several books and created educational software. Over the years Bill served his community through coaching, acting as a judge for educational events and serving as Chairman of the Copley Township Zoning Commission. Bill was a longtime member of Medina Country Club.
Bill enjoyed life and had many travels, exciting life experiences and fun during his too short of time here. Bill enjoyed golf, rides in his convertible with his wife, playing the stock market, keeping in touch with loved ones through e-mail and texts, reading, trapshooting and spending time with his granddaughters. Bill was always up-to-date on politics and current events and was always ready to offer a thought-provoking discussion, financial advice, encouragement or a listening ear to his family and friends.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, Bonnie Boyd Frye; sons, Jay Laura of Hudson and Andy Jessy Frye of Jacksonville; daughter, Kelly Eric Luecke of Doylestown; granddaughters, Lauren and Cameryn Luecke. Preceded in death by parents; son, Ryan Boyd Frye and brother, Larry Frye.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association, 1403 W. Hines Hill Road, Peninsula, Ohio 44264 or Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary, 5623 New Milford Road, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Billows Funeral Home, 85 N. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, with Dr. Donard M. Engle officiating, followed by a celebration of Bill's life at Edgar's at Goodpark Golf Course, 530 Nome Ave, Akron.
