Dad was a very compassionate person. He will be remembered as a great husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. Dad was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 9, 1923 and spent his early years growing up on the west side of Cleveland during the Great Depression. He attended West Tech High School and enjoyed football, basketball and mechanical drawing. He attended Baldwin-Wallace College on a sports scholarship but left after one semester to enlist in the Army Air Corps. Eventually he wound up in England and flew 33 bombing missions as a B-17 navigator. After returning home, Dad went back to BW and earned a degree in Business Administration. In November of 1947, he landed a job with Ohio Bell where he worked for 36 years and retired as a District Commercial Manager. In 1984 he helped form the Leadership Akron program. Dad ran the program for the first 5 years and the program still continues today. Dad was President of the Chamber of Commerce during its transition to The Akron Regional Development Board. He was a member of the Board of Directors at St. Thomas Hospital Summa for 40 years and was on the board for the YMCA and the Boy Scout Council. Dad also volunteered his skills to the United Way Fund, Better Business Bureau and The University of Akron Graduate School Advisory Committee and was an Executive Director of the American Cancer Society, Summit County. He was a member of Bath Church UCC and Portage Country Club. He loved to take fishing trips to Canada, was an avid golfer, loved working in his garden and last but not least loved his dog "Mister G".
