Bonnie Sue Thornton, 67, of Copley, went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2011 after a 6 month battle with Small Cell Lung cancer.
Bonnie was born May 10, '44 and had lived in the Akron area most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alonza J. Woods and her mother, Florence A. Phillips Woods. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, H.S. ``Jim' Thornton; children, Elaine J. Michael Monroe of Seattle, Steven of Akron, and Allison of Copley. Bonnie has one sister, Elaine Bob Wallace of Athens, Ga. She has three granddaughters, Sarah Monroe of Chicago, Megan Monroe of Seattle, and Michelle ``Shelly' Thornton, who lived with her. She has two nephews, Steven Wallace of Florida and John Wallace of Athens, Ga. Bonnie had many cousins and friends who will miss her.
Bonnie's zest for life was seen in all that she did: Her scouting years from Den Leader to Explorer Advisor, her drive to get treatment for Shelly's Neuroblastoma, now in remission, or going on 26 cruises. Bonnie's enthusiasm was contagious, and her tell-it-like-it-is attitude earned her the respect and love of many people.
As Bonnie goes on her final ``cruise', she would be pleased if, in lieu of flowers, you make a contribution to Camp Quality Ohio, P.O. Box 2462, Akron, OH 44309.
Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Pastor Mike Prebynski officiating. Burial at Lakewood Cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
