Bruce L Mcmakin

March 21, 1945 — April 27, 2011

Bruce L. McMakin, age 66, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2011.

Bruce was the beloved husband, of 42 years, to Mary; loving father of Kristi McMakin Dempsey; father-in-law of Dan Dempsey; brother to Lynn Bird and Andrea Smith; brother-in-law to Ruth Hubbard , lovingly known as Pap to granddaughter Erin Dempsey; Uncle of Justin Bird and Darby Ray.

Bruce was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated the University of Cincinnati with a Business degree. In 1964, he met the woman of his dreams, married Mary in 1968. After living in Cincinnati for several years, they made a home in Hudson, Ohio. In Hudson, he made one of his many dreams come true. Bruce and Mary became owners of The Land of Make Believe located on Main Street. Bruce was active on the Hudson Township Zoning Commission, Comprehensive Plan committee, Hudson City Board of Zoning Appeals and a volunteer ambulance drive for Hudson EMS.

Bruce and Mary were able to retire early and fulfilled another one of his dreams. They built the house of their dreams in St. John, Virgin Islands. While living on St. John, Bruce became President of the Estate Chocolate Hole Homeowners Association. Bruce enjoyed rum drinks on their deck enjoying the scenic view while sitting next to his darling wife.

Medical reasons caused the return to Ohio and they settled in Bath. There he became involved in local government by being appointed to Zoning Commissions and Comprehensive Plan committee. During the warm weather Bruce and Mary enjoyed nice long drives with their BMW sports car friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday May 7th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Emidio's Banquet Center at 48 East Bath Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce McMakin's name to the Cancer Research Institute or the Bath Fire Department.
