Burlen Southers, 88, died February 6, 2011 at Summa Western Reserve Hospital.
Born in Blairsville, Ga., he had lived in the Akron area until moving to Bath in 1968. A certified HVAC technician, he then joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Upon his return to civilian life, he completed his technical education and worked as a draftsman in the rubber industry until retirement. Burlen spent ten years of his retirement on the staff of Bath United Church of Christ. He considered this part of his career as the most rewarding. As well as being a member of the Bath Church, he was past president of the Bath-Richfield Kiwanis and was a member of Akron Men's Garden Club and the National Rifle Association. Burlen had many varied interests.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Zada nee King; brothers, Ray Peggy and Dallas; niece, Barbara Don Hershey; many other nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., THURSDAY, 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. FRIDAY with military honors provided by Copley VFW Post 7971/American Legion Post 473 at Moore's Chapel Cemetery please meet at the Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. FRIDAY at The Bath United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Rd., with Rev. Mark W. Frey officiating.
