C. William Loughry, M.D., passed away Dec. 16, 2012 at Brookdale Assisted Living Memory Care Unit.
He was born May 26, 1921 in Akron, attended West High School and received his B.S. from The University of Akron and his medical degree from Ohio State University. He served his internship and general surgery residency at University Hospitals in Cleveland. In July of 1976, he became the chairman of surgery at Akron City Hospital and continued in that position until 1986. He was dedicated to his research in breast cancer with Dr. Dan Sheffer and Brenna Baird with The University of Akron and Summa respectively.
He is survived by his wife, Ann H. Loughry; son, Michael W. Loughry of California; daughter, Laura Ann Loughry of Chicago, Ill.; stepchildren, Ann S. Mell of Birmingham, Mich., Marvin M. Mell III of Key West, Fla., and John H. Mell of Akron.
There will be a private interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Research of Summa Akron City Hospital; the Alzheimer's Assosication; or Brookdale Assisted Memory Care.
