Carol S. Foley, 90, passed away July 11, 2011.
She was born in Charles City, Iowa.
Preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Faith Snyder Sheldon; sister, Alice Hauser; and husband of 40 years, Dr. Howard K. Foley, Jr.; she is survived by brother, Allen C. Sheldon of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughter, Karen S. Foley of Cuyahoga Falls; and son, Keith S. Shelley Woodworth Foley of Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
She received a BA from the University of Northern Iowa majoring in voice and began her MA at Northwestern. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity and belonged to the Tuesday Musical Society. She taught vocal and instrumental music in Dunkerton, Iowa and Akron, Ohio. Then she became a statistician for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.
She was the first Girl Scout in Charles City, Iowa. She continued supporting the Scouts during her life.
Supporting the Republican Party, she was an Official Ohio Pollworker for over 25 years.
She belonged to the PEO Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization, for 72 years, currently a member of Ohio Chapter AJ - Cuyahoga Falls. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended the First Congregational Church of Akron, being a member for over 40 years. She belonged to OASIS, Cuyahoga Falls Senior Travel Club, XYZ Club, AARP Chapter 455 Cuyahoga Falls and presently active in AARP Chapter 5038 Hampton Falls where she had played piano for meetings.
The family expresses their special thanks to all her doctors, nurses and therapists for their wonderful care.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on TUESDAY, July 19 at the First Congregational Church of Akron, with Rev. Dr. Jay Marshall Groat officiating. Burial at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44308. Billow FALLS Chapel
