Carol V. Mcgrew

Carol Vere McGrew, 79, passed away, surrounded by family, on December 25, 2015 at Akron General's Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service Justin T. Rogers Care Center in Copley, Ohio.

Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio, on January 19, 1936, the daughter of Charles V. and Goldie F. (Butler) Shaffer, Carol grew up on a farm in Tuscarawas, Ohio. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. She was the organist for the Sharon Moravian Church, where she was very active. Carol graduated from Tuscarawas-Warwick High School and attended Kent State University. After Kent State, Carol taught school briefly at St. Mary's in Akron, followed by a longer stint teaching 4th grade at Fishcreek Elementary School in Stow, Ohio. She stopped teaching in 1966 to spend several years at home with her children, and in the early 1970's began her career in real estate, where she spent the rest of her working years.

Carol was a very successful real estate agent and broker, and was very active within the industry. She served several years on the Board of Directors and a term as President of the Akron Area Board of Realtors, and was the recipient of numerous real estate awards.

Carol's husband, Dennis C. McGrew, passed away in 1998. Carol is survived by her sons, Steven (Mary Jane), Eric (Kimberly), and Michael (Abegail) McGrew; granddaughters, Chloe, Olivia, and Vivian McGrew; grandsons, Gunner, Aiden, and Christopher McGrew; cousins, Lena (Ronald) Moore, and Howard (Ricky) Butler; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Daniel B. (Dorothy) McGrew, Marilyn McGrew, Nancy D. (Lyle) McGrath, Bonnie M. (Stanton) Lockwood, and Anne G. McGrew; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with
