Carole Mae Snyder

January 30, 1934 — January 20, 2010

As Carole took her last breath, the grey skies parted and a ray of sunshine shone through symbolizing in our hearts that Jesus had come to take her home. Never complaining, she courageously fought a long battle with myasthenia gravis, breast and gallbladder cancer. She was an inspiration to those who knew her and a true hero to those who loved her. Carole lost that battle the morning of January 20, 2010. She was 75.

Carole was a 1951 graduate of Buchtel High School and attended the University of Akron. High school sweethearts, Carole Frye and Bill Snyder, were married July 10, 1954. They were married 42 short years before Bill prematurely passed away in 1996. Carole worked as a secretary in the family owned business, Snyder Agency Insurance Co. and later for Dr. Dennis Weiner. She was Bill's proofreader and typist for his Stan Hywet speeches and ABJ weekly Garden Column, she was the wind beneath his wings. She then began the career that remained nearest to her heart, the career that really mattered, that as 'Grandma Nut', the best grandma ever. She was never happier than when she was with her grandchildren.

Carole had many friends through her affiliation with three churches over the years, First UCC, High Street Christian, and presently Lockwood UMC. Best times include anything family, her Knitting Club, 'Yocono Girls' monthly lunch, getting together with her Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority sisters, trips to Florida, the Akron Symphony, Blossom Music Center, and Pastor Vicki's Bible Study. She enjoyed the beauty in nature and watching football and baseball games. Her favorite flower was the daffodil and she hoped she could see them bloom again before she died. Thanks to Baumann's Florist for going the extra mile and making that possible.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, William L. Snyder; her parents, John W. and Ruby K. Frye; and infant granddaughter, Katlyn Snyder. She is survived by her children, Pamela and Alan Baughman, Jeffrey Snyder and friend, Diane Snyder, John and Wanda Snyder; her grandchildren, Alana and Rein Baughman, Margo and Steven Snyder, Kayla and John William Snyder and her beloved cat, Tess; her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Valentine; her aunt, Thelma Hough, and in laws, Robert and Dawn Snyder. Also, numerous nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, her adopted kids and grandkids; her FAB 4, Nancy Noffsinger, Bob and Betty Ovendorf, Bruce and Carol Loveland, and Bob and Dawn Snyder; and long-time friends, Phyllis Monahan and Joan Stake.

She and the family would like to thank all her doctors and surgeons, especially Dr. Melodie Phillips, Dr. Joseph Koenig, and Dr. Larry Saltis and Jennifer. A very special thank you to the Summa Palliative Care Unit nurses and docs for making her final days 'enjoyable' and then comfortable. She was dearly loved and will live in our hearts forever.

Isaiah 25:8 "The Lord God will wipe away tears from all their faces."

A Celebration of Carole's Life will begin at 3 Saturday, January 30th at Lockwood UMC, 3680 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44319 with the Rev. Pastor Vicki Hillman-Breckner officiating. A Graduation Dinner in her honor will be provided by her church family following the ceremony. Private family burial at Rose Hill Burial Park. Donations may be made to a Memorial Fund in her name to Lockwood UMC or The Salvation Army.
