Carolyn R (Flowers) Chapman

Carolyn R (Flowers) Chapman passed away on May 25th, 2024, at the age of 85 from a 2.5 year battle with Ocular Melanoma.  She is survived by her spouse the Rev Dr Don Skinner; her son David (Chris)/Grandson Sean; her daughter Suzanne; 8 Step-Children Cheri (Vic), Laurie (Garrett), Cindy (Wah), Lisa (Doug), Michelle (John), Jim (Lizzie), Steve (Heather), Debbie (Rich) and their children/grandchildren whom she adored.  She was especially close to her nephew Kevin, her local grandchildren Daniel, Christine and Jonah; and her Granddog Bella.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Lawrence Flowers and Mabel (Moore), her son Brian, her previous husband Rev Dr James Chapman and her sister Rev Nancy Jo Noall.

She was born in Clarksburg, WV and grew up in the Akron area where she graduated from Buchtel High School and worked throughout her adult years.  Her loves were gardening - her garden was on display at the 2018 Master Gardener’s Tour, travelling, hiking the metro parks - over 30 years of hiking shields from the Fall Hiking Sprees and serving at St Paul’s Episcopal Church.  She enjoyed playing games (and winning!), reading, and creating a beautiful home.

Her accomplishments include her many decades of service at St Paul’s in the capacity of Pastoral Care Coordinator, Verger, Eucharistic Minister, Stephen Ministry Leader, Vestry and Education for Ministry Leader.  In 2022 she was awarded the ‘Spirit of St Paul’s’ Award.

Calling hours will be held at Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333, on Thursday, May 30th from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  Services will be held at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Akron on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 1:00 PM.  A private inurnment will be held for the family.
