Catherine Anne Altizer

January 15, 1974 — July 27, 2023

Catherine Anne Altizer was a caring mother, granddaughter, sister, and friend. She left this world unexpectedly on July 27, 2023, in Akron, Ohio at the age of 49. She was born to Debbie Ballard and Chris (Vickie) Altizer on January 15, 1974, in Huntington, West Virginia.

She graduated from Huntington East High school in 1992 and later went on to earn her Associate degree in 2005 at Huntington Junior College, which was one of her proudest achievements. She spent many years as a court reporter and later transitioned to sales when she relocated to Akron, Ohio in 2015.

She is preceded in death by her Granny Bet, baby brother Adam, Papaw Earl, and Grandfather Frederick.

Catherine’s greatest and fiercest love was for her children, Caroline (Natalie) Altizer, Gabriel Hoverman, and Madeline Altizer. She also leaves behind her beloved partner, Ryan Fisher. She was a devoted older sister to Eric and Adam Ballard and Sarah Altizer. She was granddaughter to Frederick and Janet Altizer and Earl and Betty Rust. She married Daniel Hoverman in 1992 and Cullen Vance in 2010. She is also survived by her beloved Aunt Jana (Allen) Cuervo and many other cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She was a devoted animal lover and never found a stray she didn’t love. She always had a cat in her lap or at her feet as she curled her hair each day. She leaves behind her dog ‘Action’ Jackson, who she always said was her ultimate partner in life or partner in crime. They loved to share Wendy’s while they fought over the favorite blanket.

She was as good a gardener, as she was a chef, making many holiday meals inspired by the Great British Baking Show and Betty Crocker. She celebrated every holiday, but Halloween and Christmas were top of the list. She never left a tree undecorated or unfluffed. Recently, she discovered a passion for naval warfare in the form of her favorite video game, “Boats,” which she played with her partner and her son.

Her family will always remember her bright smile, her bold red lipstick, and the many lost pairs of sunglasses at Holden Beach, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Catherine’s honor to the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol ( www.hbturtlewatch.org ) and sent to: Holden Beach Turtle Watch Program (HBTWP) PO Box 487 Supply, NC 28462.

Services in care of The Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory, Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N Miller Road  Akron, OH  44333.
