Catherine A. "Sis" Bronson
Catherine A. "Sis" Bronson, 96, died on February 28, 2014 at Laurel Lake Community in
Hudson, Ohio.
Born on March 20, 1917, in Akron, Catherine Elizabeth Ake was the daughter of
Merlin E. Ake and Catherine Firestone Ake.
Known, lovingly, to friends and family as Sis, she was predeceased by her husband,
Wright Bronson, Jr. in 1997, and her daughter, Catherine B. Kostewicz, in 2010.
She is survived by her two daughters, Pat (Rob) Rose of Toledo, Ohio, and Pam
Giambrone of Rochester, New York; 5 grandchildren, Mickey Craig, Jamie Rose,
Robb (Helen) Giambrone, Charlie (Melissa) Giambrone, and Catie (Mark) Tortarella.
Sis is also survived by her 9 great-grandchildren, Anna and Grant Craig, Evy Rose,
Dominic, Sophia, and Julia Giambrone, Luka and Liam Giambrone, and Benjamin
Tortarella.
As a youth, Sis attended King School, and graduated from Old Trail School in 1935.
She went on to Connecticut College for Women, where she graduated in 1939. A lifetime resident of Akron, Sis married Wright in 1945, where they raised their three
daughters. Sis will fondly be remembered for her countless years of community
service. She was a dedicated volunteer for Akron City Hospital, where she served on
the Women's Board, and volunteered for many years at Laurel Lake. She was an
active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Portage Country Club, and the Akron
City Garden Club.
A memorial service will be held May 9, 11 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Akron,
Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Summa Foundation at 525
East Market St. Akron, OH 44304, or St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 1361 W. Market
