Catherine Ann Moone age 75, passed away after a brief fight with cancer on May 20, 2019 at Akron General Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Cathy was born in Austin, Texas to the late George and Doris Rooney. Cathy and the Rooney family moved to Akron in 1945. She attended St. Sebastian, Our Lady of the Elms, and graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. Cathy worked as the director of volunteers for the American Red Cross, Summit County Chapter, for over 13 years before relocating to Southern California in 1988. Cathy returned to Akron in the early 2000’s to spend time with and care for her parents. She was a devoted Catholic and was an active member of the Parish of St. Hilary in Akron, and the Parish of Sacred Heart in San Diego while she lived there. After retiring, Cathy dedicated her time and energy to her true calling – volunteering and helping others. She volunteered at a number of organizations, making wonderful friends at the Discovery Shop in Akron, providing reading tutoring services to the students at the Helen Arnold CLC, and the Fairlawn Women’s City Club. Cathy was a devoted mother of two sons and loved being a grandma to her grandson and aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard and Sean; her grandson, Sean Albert; and her brothers, Tom (Barb) and George (Eileen) and their families.
