Catherine Schlabig, (nee Martin), “Honey”, “Nana Honey”, age 88, of Akron, passed away January 26, 2023.
Cathy was born April 5, 1934, to Catherine and Richard Martin, in South Fork, Pa and was one of 10 children. Mom moved to Ohio in her early 20’s and resided in Akron for over 60 years. Mom was a member of St. Sebastian Parish and enjoyed volunteering at the Civic Theatre and EJ Thomas. Mom was an avid golfer, bowler, had a song for every occasion and loved to tell corny jokes! Mom was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed teaching us how to make homemade pasta and sauce, teaching new golfers, and loved being a Nanny to Jonathan and Tyler. Nana Honey especially loved spending one on one time with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cathy leaves behind her children, David (Nanci) Schlabig, Marty (Mary) Schlabig, Bob (Alisa) Schlabig, Christine (John) Albanese, and Matthew Schlabig, grandchildren, Michael Schlabig, Brian (Anna) Schlabig, Emma Schlabig, Sarah Schlabig, Meredith (Phil) Irvine, Brennan (Natalie) Schlabig, Alison (Todd) Doxsey, Emily Albanese, Johnny Albanese, Jack (fiancé Hanna Childs) Schlabig, Megan Schlabig, great-grandchildren Lennon, William and Clark Doxsey, sisters Jennie Walukas of Michigan and Sarah (Sonny) West of Illinois. Honey was preceded in death by sisters Rose Ruud, Mary Mihalich, Angelina Reitz, and brothers Joe, Angelo, Jim, and Sam Martin, daughter-in-law Kay Schlabig and grandson Dean Schlabig.
A calling hour will be held 10:00-11:00 a.m., SATURDAY April 15, 2023 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
