Charles K. Steitz passed away on Sept. 25, 2014 at his home in West Akron.
Charles was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 19, 1923 to Charles J. and Bertha Steitz who lived in Shaker Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert K. and Leona Steitz. He is survived by his nephew, Peter K. Steitz of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Charles spent his younger years in Shaker Heights until his parents moved to West Akron. Charley graduated from Buchtel High school in 1941. He attended Akron University in 1941 until he was drafted during World War II in 1942 into the Army. He served in the South Pacific until January 29, 1946. He was a Lieutenant Colonial with three bronze stars. He returned to Akron University and graduated in 1949. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduation he was hired by the M. O'Neil Co. and became an assistant buyer. He then became the buyer of women's coats and in later years also the Fur Salon. He retired in 1988.
At Charles's wishes, he has been cremated and will be buried at Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn by his parents graves. Private services will be held at the burial. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
