Charles (Chuck) Thomas passed away at the age of 86 on May 22, 2018, after a two-month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dale Thomas Bouton; parents, Wilma and Joseph Thomas; and he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Thomas; sister, Shirley Carter; daughter, Diane Thomas; son, Joseph Howard Thomas and daughter-in-law, Doreen; daughter, Susan Thomas Boyer and son-in-law, Scott Boyer; son-in-law, Richard Bouton; eight grandchildren, Chris Bouton, Katie Sidesinger, Dan Bouton, Jackie Brown, Quentin Brown, Andy Thomas, Ben Thomas, and Jake Boyer; and four great grandchildren.
Chuck was born February 26, 1932, in Akron, Ohio. A graduate of Stow High School (Stow, Ohio), he attended Florida State University and served in the U.S. Naval Air Reserves before marrying Phyllis Earnest. During a long and successful career in sales and as a manufacturer's representative for several rubber companies, Chuck traveled extensively in Central and South America, living in Guatemala and Panama with his family between 1958 and 1963. He was a member of Meridian Sun Lodge #69, F.& A.M, Scottish Rite Valley of Akron A.A.S.R. and the Tadmor Shrine in Akron, Ohio. Chuck is remembered by many as an honorable and outgoing man who loved his family and friends, bringing smiles to the faces of everyone he encountered. He was always ready to mow lawns and plow snow from driveways of neighbors needing help. He was a member of Congress Lake Club and loved golf. After retiring, he volunteered at the Akron General Hospital Wellness Center in Fairlawn for 10 years.
Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at The Bath Church, UCC, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron, Ohio 44333 at 4:00 o'clock on Friday, June 22, 2018. There will be an hour visitation at 3:00 o'clock prior to the service in the historic chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Charles Thomas to the Shriners Hospital for Children - Portland, Attn: Donations, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd., Portland, OR 97239.
