Charlotte Elizabeth Walker

Our mother, Charlotte Elizabeth Walker , died Wednesday, August 3rd. She was 101.

Born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, Charlotte and her late husband, Dr. Lewis H. Walker, moved to Akron in 1951 where they raised their five children. Each dedicated themselves to the Akron community; Lew as a pediatrician, allergist and fixture at Akron Children’s Hospital, and Charlotte as an avid volunteer in myriad community organizations.

She was a longtime member and past president of WITAN, served on the Women’s Board of Akron Children’s Hospital, was the volunteer chair of Summit County United Way and served on the organizing committee for Akron’s Sesquicentennial celebration in 1975. She was a member of the West Akron Garden Club and volunteered for many years with Summit County MetroParks at the Seiberling Naturealm. She was active with Akron Family Services and a driver for Meals on Wheels for almost 30 years. An avid lover of birds and the outdoors, guiding children on walks at the Naturealm was probably her favorite thing of all.

Preceded in death by her husband, her oldest daughter, Katherine, and her son-in-law, Thomas Flynn. Charlotte is survived by her children: Christopher (Shelley) Walker, Gretchen Flynn, Curtis (Laura) Walker, Andrew Walker, Dr. Rajeev and Neeta Kishore, Tony and Rupal Mehra, Manish Kapur and her grandchildren along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and their extended families.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Ohio Living Rockynol and Ohio Living Hospice for the compassionate, professional care they provided to Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 12 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd.

A private family graveside service will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Donations in Charlotte’s name may be made to the Lewis H. Walker, MD, Cystic Fibrosis Center at Akron Children’s Hospital or the Friends of Metro Parks.
