Claire Lelchuck Hawkins went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2013 after a courageous battle with gastroparesis.
Claire was born on September 19, 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by father, Louis Lelchuck and is survived by her husband of 35 years, Curtis W. Hawkins, M.D.; mother, Constance Lelchuck; sister, Ellen (Robbie) Robinson; niece, Emily; and aunt, Sarah (Ned) Harris.
Claire graduated from Ohio University where she studied piano and music history. She used her love of music in singing for eight years with the Akron Symphony Chorus and with the St. Catherine's Women's Choir of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Akron, She helped many brides choose their wedding music.
Claire was active in community organizations, serving as president of the Bath Welcome Wagon, president of the Junior League of Akron, and as a member of the Tuesday Musical Society, Witan, and the Great Akron Musical Association.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Jeffrey Klein, M.D., Edward Esber, M.D., Gary Williams, M.D., Charles Hoppel, M.D., the pharmacists and staff of Sand Run Pharmacy, Summa Palliative Care and Hospice Services, Laura Hoover, Lisa Deckert and the many friends who have generously helped the family through this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., with Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Dept. of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Akron Symphony Chorus, or the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
