Clara “Mae” Chapline Schafer, 91, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021 at her home in Cuyahoga Falls.
Born on November 28, 1929, in Sherrard, WV; cherished daughter of the late George and Clara Mae (Cook) Chapline of Wheeling WV, Mae enjoyed spending time at home decorating, cooking, and gardening, but most importantly, she loved spending time with friends and family. Mae was the life of the party, never at a loss for words and always with a great story to tell. Mae had no children, but she loved her nephews and niece as her own, taking them for summers at her home, vacations, swimming, and baseball games. Following the death of her first husband William Wolfe of Wheeling, WV, Mae went back to school in Akron, studying Medical Assistance and graduating first in her class.
Devoted wife of the late Ronald H. Schafer of Cuyahoga Falls, Mae is proceeded in death by sisters (infant) Ilene Chapline and Agnes J. (Chapline) Clemens; brothers-in-law, William A. Clemens and Henry “Hank” DiCarlo; and special nephew George R. Clemens.
Mae is survived by sister Eleanor J. (Chapline) DiCarlo of Moundsville, WV; nephews John, Ben and Richard DiCarlo, and Robert Clemens; 1 great niece Caitlyn, 4 great nephews Michael, Stephen, Devin and Micah, and 4 great great niece and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mae’s name are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Inurnment at Short Creek Cemetery in Wheeling, WV will take place at the convenience of the family.
