Claudine Raye Ernest , age 90, passed away on May 30, 2024, in Copley, OH. Born in Hutchinson, KS, to Claude and Berdine Priest, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Claudine earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. She taught in the Topeka school system for 10 years prior to being transferred to France and Germany with her husband and children.
After returning from Europe, Claudine volunteered for multiple community organizations. Her leadership roles over the years included serving on the board of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Akron, President of Fairlawn Junior Women’s Club and twice President of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Cumberland, MD. She and Gary retired to Scottsdale, AZ in 1996.
Preceded in death by her husband, Gary of 65 years, Claudine is survived by her two children, Scott (Tammy) Ernest of Cincinnati and Kathy (Ed) McMahon of Hudson, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two on the way. Besides family and friends, her interests included playing bridge, following college and professional sports, traveling, Delta Gamma sorority, meeting people, watching classic movies, and playing scrabble. She always had a jigsaw puzzle going to challenge the family.
Claudine’s celebration of life is scheduled for later this month.
