Claybourn Bass Rhinehart, 88, passed away on October 27, 2018.
He was born in Decatur, AL on January 26, 1930 to his parents, Allen C. and Mabel Bass Rhinehart. The family moved to Rome, GA when he was 6 and he received his early education there. He attended Georgia Tech and graduated with a degree in textile engineering in 1949. Immediately after graduation he headed north and arrived in Akron with his degree, a thick southern accent and a generous amount of southern charm. Eventually he lost the accent but maintained the charm the rest of his life. He did two years of military service in the army from 1953-1955. He was hired by B.F. Goodrich in Akron and worked there until 1962 when he received an assignment to the Netherlands as an aircraft tire sales engineer. One week before leaving he married fellow engineer, Nancy Schoonover, and they embarked together on the new adventure. Clay subsequently had assignments in Melbourne, Australia and Tehran, Iran where he was managing director of those facilities. He returned to Akron in 1976 and ended his career as vice president of international marketing for Goodrich. He retired in 1990 after 40 years with Goodrich.
Clay was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Allen. He is survived by his wife, Nancy and sister, Mabel Clare Milner of Rome GA.
