Courtney Fulton Snyder, 96, passed away on Sept. 6, 2009.
She was born in Bucyrus, Ohio January 13, 1913. She lived in several cities including Cleveland, Elyria, and Washington D.C. during the Warren G. Harding administration. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1931 and from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1935. She married her college sweetheart, Dr. Donald C. Snyder in 1937 and moved to Akron in 1940 so that he could start his medical practice. When she was young she was an avid tennis player and golfer and in her later years became a duplicate bridge master. She really loved her dogs and was a wild bird enthusiast. She was involved with the Akron City Hospital Auxiliary, the American Cancer Society and other charitable organizations.
Courtney was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years on November 23, 2008. She is survived by her four daughters, Sue Bowen of Akron, Judy Hankins of Medina, Laurel McClaren of Aurora, Colorado, and Cynthia Grimm of Raleigh, North Carolina. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was a wonderful, caring wife and mother and was dearly loved and cherished by her family. She will be greatly missed.
