Cyrus P. Thornton
Heaven is a little brighter with the arrival of Cyrus P. Thornton, 97, May 21, 2015.
Cyrus was born July 30, 1917 in Akron, OH, the oldest of four children to Helen and Russell Thornton. Cyrus was proud of the long-time history of his family name in Akron, and enjoyed the many Thornton family reunions. He attended the University of Akron and Parks Air College, was employed by Goodyear Aircraft during WWII, and retired from National City Bank. He was an Akron historian, genealogist, writer, painter, photographer, woodcarver, gardener, model airplane builder, pilot, and lover of God, life, and family.
Cyrus is survived by his loving daughter, Diane Shandor and her husband Joseph; beloved granddaughters, Connie (William) Bruce and Deborah (David) Bruce; seven precious great-grandchildren; dearest friend, Anne Budd; and youngest brother, Raymond A. Thornton. Cyrus is predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Verna Irene Thornton; and brother, Frederick A. Thornton.
A memorial service is planned at Crosspoint Alliance Church (855 Rothrock Road Akron, OH 44321 330-666-1693) Saturday, June 13, 2015. Family will receive friends at 10 a.m. with a memorial service to immediately follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crosspoint Alliance Church. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
