Daniel A. Zelling, M.D. passed away early Monday morning at the age of 78.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathleen Zelling; his son, Martin Zelling (Stacey), daughter, Dr. Inge Regan (Tom), son, Michael Zelling, and daughter, Megan Graham (Kevin); his grandchildren, Dylan and Aidan Regan, Olivia and Samantha Zelling, and Cora and Hadley Graham. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Leonie Anna Marie Zelling, five brothers, and a sister.
Daniel A. Zelling, M.D. was a physician and psychotherapist with nearly 40 years of practice in medical hypnoanalysis. He was born in France and raised in the Netherlands, where in 1961, he graduated from the medical school of Rijksuniversiteit, Leiden. After coming to the United States and completing residency at Barberton Citizen's Hospital, he practiced Family Medicine for twelve years in Manchester, Ohio. Dr. Zelling then founded The Ohio Institute of Medical Hypnosis, where he spent nearly 40 years in the psychological care of patients by practicing medical hypnoanalysis. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Zelling served on the board and as past president of the American Academy of Medical Hypnoanalysts. He was past editor of the Medical Hypnosis Journal and served on the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists and the Cleveland Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He published multiple articles, gave lectures, as well as appearing on television and radio as an advocate of medical hypnosis. He was a passionate educator, teaching throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Africa, as well as at NEOUCOM. He was deeply committed to the care of his patient's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 2, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. with Rev. Adam Marquette officiating. Friends will be received beginning at 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association, 70 W. Streetsboro St., #201, Hudson, Ohio 44236, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.
